Engadin Airport in Switzerland

An airport doesn't need a structure that is anything more than a warehouse-style hangar. Hosoya Schaeffer won a competition for the new airport in Engadin near Samedan – St. Moritz, Switzerland with simple structure that has sophisticated features. The box will contain a restaurant, event space, a hotel, the typical lobby and airport space, and hangars. The programs hinge on a three story lobby with clear views between the valley and the runway. The straight edges of the box delineate the airplane zones and the public zones. Water thermal collecter on the roof help heat the large space with a goal of heating only from renewable energy. There is a simple elegance in the transparancy and organization.
