University of Helsinki City Centre Campus Library

Anttinen Oiva Architects won a competition for the new University of Helsinki Library in Finland. This project treats Helsinki as a "city, but at the same timeplace-bound, brave and personal." A gridded facade opens underneath in wide arches. This connects the space to major public buildings in an obvious way while rendering the environment flexible to the human experience. The library will cost 35 million euros and is due to open by 2012.
