The Loisium Visitor Centre and Hotel in Langenlois Austria was designed by Steven Holl's team and ARGE Architekten. It lies in the beautiful vineyards just west of Vienna, and the floorplan suggests a vineyard estate with the town behind it. But the building is very modern in this old rustic setting.
The underground existing vaults takes on an abstract form while the wine center and hovering hotel further abstract the geometry of the landscape. They first take on the typography of the site, and then contort for views, connections, and Hall's usual attention to space and light. The small details and furnitures, especially in the wine spa, speak of the winery.
It was completed in 2005.
