After Coop Himmelblau's Akron Art Museum became so popular, the Ohio city tried another architectural monument with their public library. Gathmey Siegel and Richard Fleischman Architects designed this 2008 addition.

The project brings the pedestrian scale back by relating the building to the neighboring theater, and by connecting Main Street and High Street with a tall atrium full of natural light. An outdoor park and amphitheater further encourages pedestrians, while a skybridge to a parking garage accommodates automobiles.

Careful consideration to daylighting and comfortable electrical lighting makes this project stand out.
