Built at China's commune by the great wall in Shui Guan, Shigeru Ban's Furniture House is a study of architecture as a tight-fitting piece of furniture.
In 2002, dozen architects designed their "dream villas" to provide lodging for tourists near the great wall.
Ban's first furniture house in 1995 incorporated interior furniture in the house structure. This prefabricated system keeps furniture secured and prevents collapse in an earthquake. Bamboo plywood was used for the first time as structural as well as the finish material.
