Diller Scofidio & Renfro (DS+R) and FxFowle Architects designed renovations for Alice Tully Hall at New York City's Lincoln Center in 2009.
The design amplifies the effect of the original cantilevered building over public space by replacing the stone facades with glass and extending the building over Broadway. More transparency into the building helps make it more inviting, something the architect also achieves with interactive displays and more open circulation.
Warm wood and soft tones invite a more intimate space deeper inside, matching the new acoustics which is appropriate for small chamber music.
