Brugge constructed this pavilion/bridge in 2002, in honor of UNESCO's selecting the city as a culture city of Europe. The bridge sits on the site of a church that was destroyed in World War 2.
The U-shaped structure of honey-combed aluminum incorporates the roof and walls. Toyo Ito once again establishes an interesting space simply through use of innovative structure.
In 2007, the city court ordered the pavilion dismantled to make way for the next temporary structure on the site.
