CitizenM Hotel, Amsterdam Netherlands

Dutch architectural firm Concrete designed the Citizen M Hotel at the Schiphol Airport, near the city centre and Museum Quarter of Amsterdam. It was completed in 2008.

The building is assembled like a stack of blocks with each of the 230 prefabricated and assembled on site. The architectural was stripped down to a minimum in this process and interior furnishings later introduced, particularly in the lobby and lower floor space. Spaces are defined to conserve area, for example in the bathrooms where colored lighting delineates a glass cylinder for the shower and a glass cylinder for the toilet.

Home and office atmospheres are established with the careful interior design and lighting schemes. The modular exterior windows with aluminum frames are all tilted slightly to add some dynamism to the strict geometry. A bright red box signals the entrance and art-pieces dresses the facades.
